Job Summary

The Cost Accountant is responsible for analyzing, monitoring, and reporting on costs related to production, operations, or projects to support financial decision-making and improve profitability. This role works closely with Operations, Finance, and management to ensure accurate cost reporting, budgeting, and forecasting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze and monitor product, project, or operational costs, including labor, materials, and overhead
  • Maintain and update cost accounting systems, standards, and methodologies
  • Prepare cost reports, variance analyses, and dashboards for management review
  • Analyze manufacturing or operational variances and identify root causes
  • Support budgeting and forecasting processes related to costs and margins
  • Assist with inventory valuation, standard cost updates, and cycle counts
  • Collaborate with Operations and Supply Chain to improve cost efficiency
  • Prepare journal entries and reconcile cost-related general ledger accounts
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies
  • Support internal and external audits by preparing cost schedules and documentation
  • Assist with process improvements and cost-reduction initiatives

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 2-5 years of cost accounting or related accounting experience
  • Strong understanding of cost accounting principles, budgeting, and variance analysis
  • Experience with ERP or accounting systems (manufacturing or project-based systems preferred)
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, formulas)
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate financial information to non-finance stakeholders
